Behind every bottle of Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is a wealth of history. Our traditions are rooted in the beautiful British countryside and the passion of the people who make it all happen.
Produced with pride
Our farmers are proud to grow the rapeseed used in Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. So much so, they insist on having their names on every bottle. Look out for their names and farms on every Borderfields label. It's a true hallmark of quality.
Our farming co-operative
Our partnership of like-minded farmers in Northumberland, the Scottish Borders and Nottinghamshire are all highly skilled and experienced growers of vegetables, cereals and oilseeds. As well as combining expertise to bring high quality produce to market, they also share a passion to bring the delightful flavour, versatility and goodness of Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil to more and more people.
Inspiring a golden age for British rapeseed oil
Jon Hammond, farmer and producer for Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil, is clear about the merits of oil. "We want to bring a healthy and delicious oil from British fields to British people. We believe our rapeseed oil is an unsung hero of the food world, and that there's no reason for anyone to use oil which has travelled hundreds of miles to get to you. We've made sure Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is affordable and healthy with a wonderful flavour."
Jon Hammond
Head of the Borderfields Group of growers
Jon is immersed in the day to day cycles of planning, planting, growing, harvesting, cleaning, preparing, packing and distributing crops grown in farms throughout 17,000 acres in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire. Supplying the leading supermarkets daily with thousands of tons of carrots, onions, potatoes, leeks and cabbages, Jon is at the front line of food growing. Just like with the production of Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil – which is grown, pressed and bottled and nothing more – Jon likes to keep things simple, "In everything we do, we make sure we're adding something and not taking away. We have a burning desire to be good at what we do, to stand out, to offer something different and to be exceptional in every way."
Our growers
Scottish Border grower Colin McGregor from
Coldstream Mains
Colin is responsible for growing the Scottish seed and is one of the original partners. The select Borderfields variety continues to grow well in his 700 hectares of sandy clay loam lands on the beautiful Scottish Borders. "This year we will be able to see it from the farm which will be a real treat once in full flower during the month of May." Performing consistently year on year and reliably producing our trademark golden, nutty velvety oil, Colin is proud to grow what we know our customers love.
Nottinghamshire grower Tim Bradshaw from
Apley Head Farm, Clumber
Growing the Borderfields variety of oil seed rape at his farm in Nottinghamshire, Tim is highly experienced in vegetable crops, growing peas and cereals in rotation. His heavier land is perfect for wheat and oil seed rape. Farming in harmony with nature is a priority for Tim and his farms are entered into Environmental Stewardship Schemes. "All our farmers take care for the environment very seriously. Between us, many miles of new hedges and trees will have been planted over recent years."
Northumberland Coastal Grain Growers
The farmland at Belford on the beautiful Northumbrian coast between Bamburgh and Holy Island is perfect for growing oil seed rape. Not only for the great scenery, but because it's also central to the Borderfields business. All of our Scottish and Northumberland growers deliver directly to Coastal Grain and the special seeds can be kept seperate from the rest of the year's crop so we can be 100% confident that our oil continues to deliver its perfectly consistent flavour.
